Story

We exist to walk alongside foster children and their caretakers by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building and mentorship.

The Problem

Over 400 children in Black Hawk County alone are removed from their homes and placed in the foster care system due to abuse, neglect, and unsuitable living environment with their biological families.

Without our help, the statistics for these children’s futures are bleak:

  • 47% of children in care have been incarcerated by the age of 17.
  • 36% of children in care have been referred for an alcohol or substance abuse assessment or counseling in the last year.
  • 25% are homeless within two years after aging out of foster care.
  • 28% of children who age out of care don’t receive a high school diploma.

Our Solution

Our Love Box program takes further action by connecting foster families with other dedicated volunteers to create connections and a pathway of hope for children in the foster care system. Volunteers meet practical everyday needs and build intentional relationships with the family they serve.

The Love Box program provides foster families with community and holistic support so that they can continue to do the important and meaningful work of being a foster parent.

As a Love Box group, you will be matched with a local foster family based on compatibility and scope of needs to support them for at least one year. When our families are matched with committed volunteers who show up monthly, parents feel supported and children gain a sense of belonging and self-confidence.

Investing our time and resources in children is investing in the future of our community.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, we want to be a part of that village.
