Story

We exist to walk alongside children, youth and families in the foster care community by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building and mentorship.

The Problem

Over 2,600 children in Cuyahoga County alone are removed from their homes and placed in the foster care system due to abuse, neglect, and unsuitable living environment with their biological families.

Without our help, the statistics for these children’s futures are bleak:

  • 50% of foster homes close within the first year
  • 1:5 youth who age out of foster care will become homeless after age 18
  • 50% of children who age out of care don’t receive a high school diploma
  • 3% will make it to college
  • 60% of former foster youth will fall below the poverty line, despite earning an income

Our Solution

We have two mission driven, relationship building programs; Love Box and Dare to Dream.

Our Love Box program takes further action by connecting foster families with other dedicated volunteers to create connections and a pathway of hope for children in the foster care system. Volunteers meet practical everyday needs and build intentional relationships with the family they serve.

The Love Box program provides foster families with community and holistic support so that they can continue to do the important and meaningful work of being a foster parent.

As a Love Box group, you will be matched with a local foster family based on compatibility and scope of needs to support them for at least one year. When our families are matched with committed volunteers who show up monthly, parents feel supported and children gain a sense of belonging and self-confidence.

Our Dare to Dream program provides one-on-one mentorship to youth in foster care. Our mentors are advocates, guides, role models, valued friends, and available resources who guide youth in their accomplishment of developmental milestones through intentional giving, relationship building, and mentorship.

The heart of the Dare to Dream program is to walk alongside youth as they navigate through life's challenges. The youth in our Dare to Dream program need the wisdom, advice, encouragement, and community that mentors can provide. Mentors meet practical and emotional needs as well as provide guidance through developmental milestones. The goal is for youth to be engaged and to feel supported and equipped to navigate life.

A mentor commits to meeting with the youth every other week to set goals and help them achieve their dreams. These relationships will hopefully last a lifetime, but the program is a year commitment. Mentors matched with a high school student are strongly encouraged to stay with the youth until high school graduation.

We tell mentors that the simple act of telling their youth “I believe in you,” “You are special,” and “You are going to do great things” can change their path completely.

Investing our time and resources in children is investing in the future of our community.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, we want to be a part of that village.
