Story

In August 2023, the island of Maui was devastated by wildfires.  While ALL needs are real and important, we think we can meet a very specific need by helping the high school theatre students rebuild their programs.  Art - especially the performing arts - brings a commuinty together like nothing else can.  Our Cause will fund free tickets to theatre programs at Maui Preparatory School and King Kekaulike High School, allowing students, families, and locals to come together as a community and bond over the shared magic of live theater.  We are reaching out as fellow theatre students - from Iowa to Hawaii - so that we all may thrive.  "I Ola Kākou"

It was a terribly catastrophic loss of life, history, and culture for Maui that day. Absolutely unimaginable terror and loss. A fire is different than other disasters in that there is NOTHING left. We are all still reeling, and Maui's economy is sliding off a cliff. Please encourage people to come.  The theater program that is out West is Maui Prep. Their students/staff/community were severely affected, as many of them lived in/around Lahaina. Wonderful people lead the theater department, who worked extremely hard for their students, families, and school during the crisis and still.

-Chris Kepler, Thespian Troupe 7106, King Kekaulike High School

Maui Prep shifted within hours from preparing to open school to the only functioning emergency evacuation center on West Maui. As a result of the fires, over 3000 students in West Maui have not had a school to go to either due to destruction or unsafe toxic conditions of remaining school structures. Our school is the only school on West Maui that has been able to open in its full capacity. We believe that the arts, in particular performing arts, will help our community heal and inspire hope.  Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. It is comforting to know that there are those out there who care.
