Cancer has had a profound impact on my family and our lives.

Our journey started a little over 5 years ago when I was diagnosed with stage 3 metastatic colon cancer.  Since then I've moved to stage four with metastasis to my liver. We've been through  3 major surgeries and 4 different rounds of chemo. I'm currently undergoing chemo again with the hope of another surgery in the near future. For me cancer is looking like a chronic condition and if that's the case I will make this last a long, long time.

I've been incredibly blessed with a terrific support system. My family has been unbelievable. Old friends, new friends, patients, coworkers and even strangers have been awesome. Prayers, positive thoughts and well wishes are coming from all directions. I can best explain it as the feeling of the warm sun shining on the back of my neck.

A few years ago, one particular good soul along with my coworkers started Team Eric by distributing wrist bands to friends and patients that wanted them. There is nothing like seeing this kind of support and we'd like to continue just that with this project.

I came across a book by David Goggins' called "Can't Hurt Me". This book has had a major impact on my life and attitude. One of the concepts David speaks of is embracing the suck. One can lay around and feel sorry for themselves or realize it's part of the journey, keep going and better things will come. I've seen this has not only made me appreciate the little things more it has put me in situations to make the world a better place.

So looking for a way to give back or at least make it better for future cancer victims, our family wanted to do more. By teaming up with One Mission for this fundraiser, 40% of our sales will go directly to The American Cancer Society, specifically to colon cancer research. I'm a firm believer that research is the answer to solving this cancer problem. Anything we can do to speed it along will only benefit human kind.

Often times, t-shirts like these are made to remember those we've lost to cancer and raise awareness, but I would love to be proactive and see posts, texts and even people walking down the street in our shirts while I'm here to enjoy them. Go team Eric!

Thanks for YOUR support. #embracethesuck
