Hi, I’m the youngest of 13 kids. Growing up in a big family meant I was always looked after, always loved. It also meant I’ve seen the toll that serious illness can take. Over the years, I’ve lost my father and three of my sisters to cancer. Our family has battled more than its fair share of health issues — from diabetes to Crohn’s to high blood pressure. It’s been a long shadow that followed us, and part of me always wondered if one day it would be my turn.
I’ve always been diligent about my health — regular checkups, cancer screenings, vaccines, and staying on top of anything that felt off. In February, I had a clear mammogram. But in September, I found a lump.
Things moved quickly after that. Within a week, I had another mammogram, an ultrasound, and a biopsy. The next day, I got the call: Stage 2, HER2-positive breast cancer.
I cried — a lot — those first few days. It was overwhelming. But since then, I’ve stopped crying. Why? Because now I have a plan.
This week, I’ll have my port placed, and chemo starts on the 28th. I’ll be undergoing 18 weeks of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, followed by surgery and radiation. It’s going to be a long road, but I’m ready to walk it — one day at a time.
I am incredibly fortunate to have a huge support system. My family is strong, loving, and always there for me. I know not everyone is that lucky, and I’m deeply grateful to never face this journey alone.
This fundraiser will help with the growing costs of treatment — from medical bills and travel to time away from work and recovery needs. If you’re able to donate, share, or simply send love and encouragement, it means more than I can say.
Thank you for walking this path with me.
With love and gratitude,
Kenya
