September 25, 2023 September 23rd Update

September 8th, 2023 was the worst day I have ever experienced in the 27 years — my mom had been riding her motorcycle into work when a careless driver pulled out in front of her, significantly changing the life that my mom knew and the life that our family knew forever. I had never been so scared in my entire life. I thought my invincible mother was going to die right there before my eyes. For days afterwards, I thought she still might die. Those are days that will haunt me for the rest of my life. The thought of the world losing my mom was and still is truly unbareable. I had to make a lot of important decisions very quickly that day, ones that have altered my mom’s life forever. But I made every single decision with my mom and my brother’s best interest and well being at the forefront. And everyone, including her, have said that I made the right decisions and that they are proud of me for being brave. I knew I really had done the right things when I got to hear her say she was proud of me too. By the grace of God or the universe, her motorcycle helmet, the people that stayed with her until help arrived, every single person that cared for her at UIHC.. and all of you who have said prayers, played AC/DC, left encouraging comments, donated to my moms fundraiser, checked in on her and my family, sent gifts to her and brought food to our house, and numerous other things.. I get the pleasure to announce that after 11.5 DAYS IN THE ICU AND ONLY FIFTEEN DAYS IN TOTAL, MY MOM WAS DISHARGED FROM UIHC AND WAS TRANSFERED TO INPATIENT REHAB!! I know many people have asked about when they can visit my mom and hopefully it will be soon. Please understand she will have many different types of rehab and therapy each day so please be patient with her when trying to schedule a time to visit/call her now that she has her phone back. Not sure she how long she will be there before she is discharged home but I imagine it will be weeks at least. Please keep saying prayers for her. This is the beginning of a brand new chapter in her life, and I imagine it is the best one she has yet to write ❤️ P.S. soon we will have shirts you can buy to support my mom through the Cause Team if you’d like!

{11.5 days after my mom was hit on her motorcycle, she is OUT OF THE ICU and onto an impatient floor!!- Bailey}

September 19, 2023 September 19th update

{It’s a great day for my mom to have a great day !!! She sat up off the side of the bed and she was able to lean in multiple directions when the PT and OT asked her too !! And she did everything minimally assisted despite all of her injuries !! I am one proud daughter ❤️ I didn’t believe in miracles until 11 days ago when my mom was hit on her motorcycle on her way to work and she survived, let alone survived WITHOUT BRAIN OR SPINAL DAMAGE. You have all showed my mom and our family that the power of prayer is real! Please keep praying as this is just the very beginning of months and years of recovery. She should hopefully move out of the ICU and onto an impatient floor either later today or tomorrow ?? -Bailey}

September 18, 2023 September 18th 2023 update

{Mom’s hip surgery is scheduled for 4pm today. I’m working from home today & my brother has to do things for school — but her sister and her parents are all with her ?? I video chatted with her this morning she had the oximeter wrapped around her head and kept telling me she looks like Jane Fonda ? Also, yesterday she was going on and on to her nurses and doctors about nursing education and innovation .. is anyone surprised? ??‍♀️ I keep telling my mom that I don’t know anyone else’s mom that is as badass as mine ?? Keep her in your prayers, pretty please ❤️ from Bailey Evening update: Mom is out of surgery and headed to the recovery room! Surgery was successful and pretty uneventful, all things consider! Thank you SO much to everyone who has prayed and continues to pray for her. Hopefully in a couple days she can be moved out of the ICU and onto another floor ??❤️-Bailey Late evening update: Last update for the night…. Mom texted me “sufmrgery is done. all is well” ??? !!! Then Jacob and I CALLED to say Goodnight and she ANSWERED ?? !!! ? She just got out of surgery less than 3 hours ago and we weren’t expecting her to be extubated until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest, let alone TALK TO US ON THE PHONE a couple hours after surgery !!!! Omg this was the best she’s sounded since the accident — voice just barely raspy but VERY CLEAR and she sounded like just herself, didn’t sound loopy at all. Jacob and I are flabbergasted to say the least. Like I said couple posts back, it was not too many days ago that I thought I may never hear my moms voice again and that thought pained me to the deepest depths of my being. Our mom is a literal miracle. She also did say something along the lines of “you’re right, you guys do have a bad ass mom” … Damn right we do !!! ???? We love you, mom!! Jacob and I have not left your side since the moment we found out about your accident (so many people have told us they are proud of how we’ve stood by your side, relentlessly at times) ❤️❤️ -Bailey}

September 18, 2023 September 17th 2023 update

{UPDATE.. straight from MOM herself!! She wants me to let everyone know that she will need extra prayers as the plan is tomorrow she will have a lengthy hip surgery. She also wanted me let everyone know that she has read / been told of all the messages she’s received (we’ve given her her cellphone back.. sparingly?). She said “tell them I am so appreciate, I just don’t have the energy to respond right now”. I’ve told her no rush, nobody is expecting you to do ANYTHING (she’s worried about work of course) except spend time healing and resting ❤️ Say an extra prayer for my mom tonight & tomorrow — this hip surgery plays a big part in when she can be moved out of the ICU and onto another floor ??❤️?? -from Bailey}

September 18, 2023 September 16th update

{Can’t stop thinking about yesterday when I saw my mom awake and able to talk (in-person) for the first time since her accident. I had stopped in real quick before her surgery (which went as expected btw!) and she held her hand up to my face to graze my cheek and told me she loved me and that she was proud of me. Most of her hand is covered with bandages but she has a small part where her skin is showing. I’ll never forget how the warmth of her skin felt as she placed her hand up to my cheek. I actually kept leaning in closer, holding her hand and and saying to her “please don’t stop touching my face, mom”. Crazy to think as a child you wish for the day your family will stop pinching your cheeks and here I was at 27 years old begging my mom to not stop touching mine. Again, thank you to every single person who has reached out, said prayers for my mom, played AC/DC for her, donated to her fundraiser, and been in her corner. I will never be able to repay everyone for their generosity towards my mom, my family, and I so I hope my continued thanks and gratitude will suffice. We still have a long, long ways to go (another tentative surgery on Monday) — but I can’t wait to hold her hand the entire time. I love you, mom ❤️ Love, your daughter, Bailey PS: SHE JUST GOT HER FIRST DIET COKE IN A WEEK!! PPS: SHE’S BORED…. SURPRISE SURPISE!! ? PPPS: SHE’S APPARENTLY GOING TO WRITE A BOOK … STAY TUNED!!}

September 14, 2023 September 13th update

{Update from Bailey: There was a time not too many days ago I thought I may never hear my mom’s voice again — a thought that pained me to the deepest depths of my being. Today I got the best surprise I’ve ever gotten in my life — I got to hear her voice a day early!! Not once, not twice, but THREE times. The plan was to take her breathing tube out tomorrow so you can imagine I was floored when I got the call that my mom wanted to talk to me ? We had to FaceTime today since I couldn’t make it to the hospital — I had to work from home, attend appointments, and tend to some adult things on the back end, but you best believe I’ll be there tomorrow. She asked if my brother Jacob was coming up to stay overnight with her like he has night after night after night. I have the upmost respect for my brother for the dedication and deep love he has for our mom. When I told her he was coming she said, “They better let him stay with me”. I said, “What, are you gonna fight them?” and without hesitation she said, “F*ck yeah!!” Trust me when I say my mom is definitely all there ? I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to everyone who has reached out to my family, sent my mom prayers, played AC/DC for her, sent gifts and food, donated to her fundraiser, and countless other things. I’m sure most of you know my mom is very humble. I told her many times before the accident that I don’t think she understands the magnitude of the number of lives she has impacted. You all have proved that. I know everyone has been waiting for updates about my mom. She is still in the ICU, and likely will be for quite some time, but I’d say she’s had 4 pretty damn good days in a row, all things considered! As a daughter, I want nothing more than to protect my mom at any and all costs — that is why I have been cautious about providing updates. Thank you for respecting that I am not ready to share the extent of her injuries with everyone yet. I will say that she has had numerous very significant injuries and a few of them have been life-altering. She has many weeks, and months and years of recovery ahead of her and there will be a lot of money spent making sure she can come home safely when she is ready. Jacob and I are ready to dedicate our lives and careers to caring for our mom to the fullest extent. I hear people say that kids don’t fully comprehend the magnitude of love that parents have for them, but I think it goes both ways — I don’t think my mom will ever fully comprehend the depths of our love for her either. Thank you again for respecting our privacy at this time but please know that I’m providing updates every time I feel it’s right to do so. Tomorrow is a big day for my mom. The tentative plan is that she is going to undergo her second of many surgeries to come. Please say an extra prayer for her tonight before you go to bed or tomorrow when you’re going about your day. My mom is the most resilient person I know — I have faith she will get through every challenge she has yet to face, just as she’s gotten through every challenge up to this point. I love you, mom ❤️ Love, Your daughter, Bailey}
