Story
After over two years of prayers, tears, pokes, chemo, transfusions, long clinic days, overnight stays, side effects, ER visits, hair loss, procedures, isolation, and trusting God through the unknown of it all, our brave and resilient Dean Lewis is finally RINGING THE BELL!! We created these shirts to celebrate his unbelievable strength and to show him just how many people have been in his corner throughout his entire journey battling BCell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
BACKSTORY
Dean was unexpectedly diganosed with BCell ALL at age 4 after struggling to fight the flu for several days. Concerned that he wasn't getting better, we took him to the ER, fully expecting them to give fluids or some other little boost to help him recover. Instead, bloodwork revealed his precious little body was waging an entirely different war, and we were shocked to hear the word most of us are too afraid to even imagine for our babies: cancer. We were transported by ambulance to the oncology unit at Dell Children's Hospital that night, on the eve of Easter Sunday 2024.
Since then, Dean has endured more pain, fear, and hard, scary things than any child should ever have to experience. But he has also had more joy, laughter, silly moments, comfort, and bright days than we ever expected at the beginning of this journey. Of course, we know any and every bit of good we experienced the last 27 months was nothing short of a miraculous gift from God, and while we aren't exactly thankful for the hard things we've been through, we can say with full hearts that we are thankful for the good the hard things have done in us. One of those things is to show us the love of all of you--our friends and family who have prayed, brought meals, sent texts, showed up, watched Hadley, changed plans, encouraged us, and been there through every single up and down. It was such comfort just to know you were there.
Our hope with these shirts is to mark this incredible milestone in Dean's life, to bring him some joy, and to show him just how many people there are who are rooting him on. Although this is the end of active treatment, a cancer battle never fully lets go of little warriors like Dean, and he will face routine check-ups, side effects, and other reminders of this fight for years to come. We know Team Dean will be there through it all, and we cannot thank you enough.
With love,
The Herrings
