Founded in 2012 in Lisbon, Iowa, Unbridled Spirits was born from a lifelong love of Thoroughbreds and a desire to make a difference in what happens after the finish line. Today, the organization provides quality, lifelong care in a sanctuary setting while also advocating for better welfare and aftercare for Thoroughbred racehorses.
From shelter, feed and veterinary care to hoof care and everyday supplies, providing a safe and comfortable retirement for these horses requires ongoing support. Unbridled Spirits estimates that caring for each horse costs approximately $500 per month.
Through education, community involvement and opportunities for families and youth to meet and learn from retired racehorses, Unbridled Spirits is also working to build greater awareness around responsible Thoroughbred aftercare.
