Story

Original Update:

Mount Vernon High School is coming together to support one of its own - our beloved custodian Steve Miller. Steve has been diagnosed with cancer and will start treatments at the end of May.

Steve has been a one-of-a-kind supporter of the staff and students at MVHS for 19+ years.  He's worked hard to keep the building and grounds looking great as well as build positive relationships with staff and students.  One of our favorite reasons for having Steve "in-the-house" is his ability to predict the weather - in fact, he's been known as our "weather oracle" and on days when we have strange/severe weather or storms, we can bank on his forecasts!

Please join us in supporting Steve through this storm - as we count on better days ahead!

Look who stopped to see us!

We thought we'd give a little update on our friend, Steve, who has progressed on to his second phase of cancer treatment!  If you can see the picture, you'll see that he recently stopped in to say "hello" to his friends at Mount Vernon High School!

Steve received some encouraging news in the middle of July, where he found out that the cancer he is fighting had shrunk.  Infusion chemotherapy treatments also began around that same time to continue the attack, which will continue through October.

Because of this, Steve will likely be unable to perform his duties as our beloved custodian, at least through the end of December, but he promises to stop in as he's able.  In the meantime, please hold a good thought for our friend, and please consider supporting him financially through the purchase of a t-shirt or a donation of any amount if you didn't get the chance to do this last spring.

June 18, 2026 Steve Update!

{

Steve has received his first donation check and is so encouraged by all of those who have rallied around him!  As of this update, Steve is about halfway through the first part of his treatment journey, but continues to maintain his positive outlook!  He'll be getting a bit of a break in a couple of weeks, then start the next phase of his treatment in mid-July.

Thank you so much for your generous support!
