Two years ago our world turned upside down when my son Asher got sick. One minute he was surrounded by friends, participating in band, running cross counry, and excelling in advanced classes at school and the next his body started failing him. He was diagnosed with PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus). What started as motor tics, vocal tics, OCD, anxiety, rage and insmonia soon progressed to loss of speech, inability to walk, catatonia, and severe food restrictions that left him dehydrated, severely malnourished, and hospitalized for 4 months. He's currently at home surviving on IV nutrition through a central line and still unable to walk. After recieving several IVIG (Intravenous Immunoglobulin) infusions, we're finally starting to see his health shift in the right direction and watch his spark return. Though we are far from the finish line, we have so many reasons to be thankful.
Unfortunately his IVIG infusions are still being denied by the insurance company and the out of pocket costs are adding up for our family. Each infusion costs us about $12,000. That said, our bigger goal in this fundraiser is to raise awareness on this illness and rally our community in support of him while he continues this long road to healing. We will be wearing these shirts on October 9th in recognition of national PANS/PANDAS awareness day. Let's show Asher that he doesn't have to fight this alone!
